Sharing the joy of special places and the time-honored tradition of landscape painting

I'm Daniel Ambrosi, an itinerant art monk, sauntering through the world, savoring experiences, ideas, knowledge, and beauty.

For fifteen years, my art practice has lived at the intersection of new technology and an old inheritance: the four-century tradition of landscape painting, from Claude Lorrain's Italianate light through the Hudson River School, the Romantics, and the Impressionists. This blog is a looser, more personal companion to that work: a journal to share the special places I encounter as I travel, the ideas that arise from paying attention to them, and the ongoing conversation I'm having with the painters who saw these landscapes long before I did.

There's no schedule here. I'll post when a place, a painting, an exhibition, or a thought earns the telling, sometimes often, sometimes not for months. What you'll find, when I do, is one artist trying to stay awake to what's in front of him.
